The advantage to starting your sale at 8am, is that it allows you time to prep your sale in the morning hours, without having to wake up at the crack of dawn. There are lots of day-of activities that need to be done BEFORE the sale starts, which is why a starting time of 8:00am is ideal. It gives you time to set up your tables and displays and to hang your signs around the neighborhood.
On the flip side, there is also an advantage to starting your sale earlier as well! Now that you know that 8:00am is the most popular starting time, you might want to give yourself an advantage and start BEFORE all of the other yard sales, which is what 14% of the population is doing by starting their sales at 7am. By starting your yard sale early, you’ll get the early bird (aka die hard) yard sale shoppers to your sale before ANY of the other yard sales open. This can be a GREAT strategy to increase traffic and profit to your yard sale. Of course, it means you may have to prep the night before, however that may be worth it for the increase in customers!
Now that you know the most popular times to start a yard sale, wouldn’t it be great to know which weeks are the best options for having a yard sale? Download a copy of our book, The Ultimate Guide to Hosting a Yard Sale in the Amazon store to find out!
