We see these priced for pennies at most yard sales, but there is one VHS tape that you should be looking out for. It’s the Fox Studio version of My Neighbor Tortoro cartoon VHS. This VHS goes for as much as $30-$40 dollars on Ebay!

Why is the My Neighbor Tortoro VHS valuable?

According to Wikipedia, My Neighbor Totoro is a 1988 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and Mei) of a professor and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan. The film won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize and the Mainichi Film Award and Kinema Junpo Award for Best Film in 1988. It also received the Special Award at the Blue Ribbon Awards in the same year.”

Since it’s introduction it has earned it’s place as cultural anime icon, receiving the distinction of being #41 in the Top 100 Best Films of World Cinema. It also ranks as in the top 25 anime characters of all time.
